Sunderland remain inside the top ten in the EFL Championship after grabbing a point at Millwall, although the Vertu Motors-backed side has now won just once in the last five games.

After a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Plymouth, Sunderland returned to the Stadium of Light seeking a return to form against Huddersfield – with the goal of trying to reclaim a spot inside the top six.

Sunderland dominated possession but it was the away side that grabbed the lead when Michał Helik headed in from close range, only for the Black Cats to draw level before the break when Luke O’Nien scored for the first time this season.

Against the run of play, Huddersfield reclaimed the lead through Delano Burgzorg and despite the home side having nearly 30 shots at goal, the visitors were able to hold on to secure a win that saw Sunderland slip to eleventh in the table.

From there, Sunderland headed for London to take on Millwall at the Den and fell behind on the stroke of half-time when Kevin Nisbet volleyed the home side into the lead.

However, when Jack Clarke was fouled in the box twelve minutes from the end, the top scorer stepped up to slot home his tenth league goal of the campaign and secure a point that leaves Sunderland sitting ninth in the table.

Next up for the Black Cats is a visit from West Bromwich Albion, whilst the draw for the FA Cup has thrown up an interesting match ahead with local rivals Newcastle set to visit the Stadium of Light early next month.
