Burnley Denied Point in Controversial Finish

Burnley missed out on a hard-earned Premier League point after a controversial finish at Bournemouth left Clarets boss Vincent Kompany far from impressed.

The Vertu Motors partner side had returned to action in the Premier League following the international break with a tricky away game against Brentford, who had gone close to winning at Manchester United two weeks earlier.

Yoana Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos scored to consign Burnley to defeat, with the trip to Bournemouth a week later providing the chance to make amends.

Things started well at the Vitality Stadium when Charlie Taylor scored his first goal for the club – and his first since netting the winner for Leeds United in a game against MK Dons back in September 2015.

After Antoine Semenyo equalised mid-way through the first half, Bournemouth hit the front with a fine goal from Philip Billing but Burnley looked to have grabbed a point when Jay Rodriguez slipped through to equalise.

However, a lengthy VAR check followed that at one stage appeared to suggest Rodriguez was onside before the decision was then taken to disallow the goal for offside – leaving Kompany far from amused.

Even then, Sander Berge came close to an equaliser only to be denied by goalkeeper Andrei Radu, with Burnley now hoping for improved fortune in the EFL Cup with a fourth round tie to come with Everton.
