Middlesbrough concluded a strong end to the EFL Championship season with victory against Watford helping to secure a top eight finish.

A late season run of form had seen Michael Carrick’s side climb up the table, although the final game of the campaign against Watford would be something of a dead rubber, with nothing to play for for either side.

‘Boro hit the front just before the half hour mark thanks to form man Emmanuel Latte Lath, who turned in a cross from Luke Ayling to pick up his 18th goal for the season but despite having the better chances, the home side failed to add a second.

Instead, Watford managed to draw level with just under 20 minutes left to play, with Watford with Wesley Hoedt nodding in from a corner to equalise.

The scores wouldn’t be level for long however, as Middlesbrough went back in front within five minutes as Alex Bangura finished off a fine move down the left hand side befoew Isiah Jones wrapped up the points when he smashed a shot beyond Daniel Bachmann late on.

Having suffered just one loss in the final eleven games of the season, ‘Boro end the campaign having finished just four points away from the play-off places and will now go into the summer looking to refresh before bidding to launch a promotion challenge next season.
