Two new turbo petrol engines to join Civic powertrain options for 2017

Honda has announced plans to introduce two new downsized Turbo petrol engines into the powertrain line up for the 2017, 10th generation Civic.

The 1-litre and 1.5 litre VTEC Turbo engines will be part of Honda's expanding 'Earth Dreams Technology' range and will bring a combination of dynamic performance, class-leading output and excellent fuel economy to Honda's popular compact car.

Boasting a new structure and utilising the newly developed turbo systems, the variable valve motion technology featured in the new engines aims to reduce friction and achieve class-leading output and environmental performance.

The new engines use a turbocharger with a low moment of inertia and high responsiveness, and direct injection technology to achieve good balance between high output and torque, above those of conventional naturally-aspirated engines.

The first of the new VTEC engines, the 310ps, 2-litre variant was launched earlier this year in the Civic Type R, and with this powertrain the sporty hatchback is capable of 0 62mph acceleration in 5.7 seconds.

Philip Crossman, Managing Director at Honda UK, comments: "With the launch of these two new smaller turbo-charged engines, we are responding to the market demand and the rising trend for increased fuel efficiency without compromising on power."

The all-new Civic was announced at the international Frankfurt Motor Show in September and is scheduled to arrive in Europe in early 2017.
