Honda plans green improvements for new Civic

Honda believes it has found the key to further success in Europe and hopes its new Civic will lead the way.

The hot hatch, which received its premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this week, is set to be given a green makeover in the coming months.

Honda Motor president and chief executive officer Takanobu Ito, told visitors to the industry event that by the end of next year, the new model will boast a more eco-friendly engine.

"By the end of 2012, we will add a newly-developed smaller diesel engine to the Civic range. Designed specifically for the European market, the new engine will further reduce CO2 emissions," he said.

"Starting with this new smaller diesel, Honda will introduce a new generation of low emission engines, renewing all of our automobile engines in Europe."

Images of the new Civic were published ahead of the show, giving touring car fans a glimpse of what Matt Neal will be driving in the 2012 championship season.
