| Vertu Motors plc was formed in late 2006 to acquire and consolidate UK motor retail businesses. The Executive Directors are experienced within the sector, having held senior positions within Reg Vardy plc, the previously quoted motor retail group. |

| In 2007 the group bought Bristol Street Motors which has grown to become one of the largest dealer groups in the UK with a nationwide chain of franchised motor dealerships offering sales, service, parts, and bodyshop facilities for new cars, used cars and commercial vehicles. The Vertu group also operates Vertu Honda featuring both car and bike dealerships, the Motor Nation brand of used car hypermarkets, plus the group has now moved north of the border into Scotland with Macklin Motors and Dunfermline Autocentre. |

Vertu Motors plc has made subsequent acquisitions:
- May 2007 acquisition of Blakes Holdings Limited operating Chesterfield Vauxhall, Chesterfield Peugeot and Worksop Peugeot. The dealerships are now branded Bristol Street Motors.
- June 2007 acquisition of Lincolnshire Honda operating Honda dealerships in Grantham, Boston, Retford and Lincoln.
- July 2007 purchase of Morpeth Ford in Northumberland.
- June 2009 purchase of the Brooklyn dealers Worcester Ford, Redditch Ford, Redditch Mazda and Cheltenham Mazda.
